SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 45

Facemyer, Fanning, Helmick, Hunter, Jackson, Kessler, McCabe,
McKenzie, Minard, Minear, Mitchell, Oliverio, Plymale, Prezioso,
Redd, Ross, Rowe, Sharpe, Snyder, Sprouse, Unger and Wooton)
Recognizing the public service of the Honorable Mark Burnette,
member of the West Virginia Senate from the 11th senatorial
district and distinguished statesman.

Whereas, The Honorable Mark Burnette was born November 12,
1964, and is the son of the late Weldon H. and Helen L. Burnette in
Takoma Park, Maryland; and

Whereas, The Honorable Mark Burnette attended West Virginia
University where he earned a B. S. degree and Harvard College of
Law where he earned a J. D. degree; and

Whereas, The Honorable Mark Burnette served his nation with
pride and distinction in the United States Army and the United
States Army Reserve; and

Whereas, The Honorable Mark Burnette is married to his beloved
wife, Kelsey Campbell Burnette, with whom he has shared the joy of
having one son, Jack; and

Whereas, From 1996 to 2000, the Honorable Mark Burnette served
the citizens of Greenbrier County as Prosecuting Attorney; and

Whereas, The legislative service of the Honorable Mark
Burnette began with his election to the West Virginia Senate from
the 11th senatorial district in 2000; and

Whereas, During his tenure as a member of the Senate, the
Honorable Mark Burnette served as Vice Chair of the Senate
Committee on Energy, Industry and Mining; and as a member of the
Senate committees on Banking and Insurance, Government
Organization, Judiciary, Labor and Small Business; and

Whereas, The Honorable Mark Burnette has contributed much to
the legislative process through his knowledge and expertise of the
law; and

Whereas, Because of his knowledge and experience in the legal
profession, the Honorable Mark Burnette quickly excelled as a
legislator and is responsible for myriad legislative acts which
were conceived and executed by him for the betterment of the
citizens of West Virginia; and

Whereas, The Honorable Mark Burnette has decided to leave
public service in 2002; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby recognizes the public service of the
Honorable Mark Burnette, member of the West Virginia Senate from
the 11th senatorial district and distinguished statesman; and, be
it

Further Resolved, That the Senate conveys its sincere appreciation to the Honorable Mark Burnette for his many
contributions to the legislative process; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Senate extends its sincere best
wishes to the Honorable Mark Burnette for all future endeavors he
may choose to undertake; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Mark Burnette, member of
the West Virginia Senate from the 11th senatorial district and
distinguished statesman.
